what was on my mind before wake forest happened.

and it still doesn't want to leave.

have you seen slumdog millionaire?

i know that i am not original to loving this movie, but oh my goodness i do. i had not seen it in a while and remembered it being one of my favorites, therefore i requested watching it while at the beach. it is one of those movies that just sticks with you. everything about the story is beautiful. i love films that so depict the truth of the depravity of life, but still have great redemptive qualities. i want a hard movie, a movie that speaks the truth of every day life but i always want a film that leaves you with hope. that is exactly what this movie does. but, it has an incredibly love story tagged along with it. i am a tried and true romantic, and i am not going to try to deny it. therefore, jamal's love for latika is truly heart wrenching. did i mention the
amazing children in this film? they are beautiful and want to break your heart just as much as jamal all grown up. india is such a beautiful place and i want to visit it some day so bad.

but, one more thing that really gets to me. children really live lives like those in this movie. they live in poverty and their childhood is ripped away from them as they basically fight for
survival. i remember when the look this one little girl gave me when i was in china. she could not have been more than five. but, the look on her face looked nothing like a five year old. she gave me a deceptive, pleading look of a teenager or 20-something year old who could trick me into giving her money. i remember i could not shake that look from my mind. i remember seeing a man standing secretively behind a car while he sent a ragged little boy across the street to ask for money. i watched the little boy pleading to everyone with no qualms at all, as the fully grown man kept looking behind his back to see how the boy was doing. i really, really pray that one day God will allow me to go overseas and help those living in poverty. whether that be in china or india or wherever else He may want me to go. i don't know if that's a true
desire of God's heart for me... but i know it is something i long to do one day.

ok, and on a less serious note. the adorable couple from slumdog millionaire date in real life. they are just precious.

and, the music is wonderful. the first is the ever popular, paper planes, with some clips from the movie. the second is just a beautiful song from the movie, latika's theme.
